Diablo

“Stay awhile and listen.”

Diablo is an action role playing game made by Blizzard in 1996. It consists of 3 things: hacking, slashing and collecting loot. You create a character and pick one of 3 classes, the Warrior, the Rogue, and the Sorcerer. The game takes place in the town of Tristram where you’re goal is to make your way through 16 dungeon levels before entering Hell to fight the Lord of Terror, Diablo himself. Tristram serves as your home base. There are a few npcs that offer helpful services and you get to listen to Deckard Cain talk to you.

It’s a click fest. If you’re playing Diablo, you’re going to be testing the limits of your mouse. You click to move, you click to attack and you click to pick up loot. The game is pretty simple, it’s a basic hack and slash but it’s the granddaddy of the genre. I mean it’s DIABLO. Whenever people talk about other ARPGs they compare it to Diablo or Diablo II.

“What ails you, my friend?”

Each of the levels are randomly generated in their layout, items and enemy placement so each playthough will be different. You go around killing enemies, collecting items, weapons and armor and completing quests to level up your character. Standard RPG stuff, but what I really like about the game is the awesome dark, evil presentation and art style. Also the music is fantastic. I seriously love the Tristram theme. It’s so iconic. It’s so Diablo.

Diablo has that old game unforgiveness. If you mess up it’s your fault. It won’t hold your hand or guide you and that can make it hard for people to get into it if they’re going back and trying it for the first time. If you’re coming from Diablo III it might be a little rough. But stick with it because you’ll discover where Diablo got it’s start. If you try it out for the first time, I’d recommend looking up some guides, but If you’re a fan of old pc games, RPGs or anything Blizzard, you should go play it.
